Diary:Dowth Point-to-Point & Country Fair

There is lots of free entertainment for kids, shopping and top racing to be found at Ireland's largest Point-to-Point and Country Fair this weekend

There will top racing and plenty of family fun to be had at Ireland's largest Point-to-Point and Country Fair in Dowth, Co Meath.

Leading jockeys from Ireland and Great Britain will take part in the inaugral Hannon Travel Anglo-Irish Point-To-Point Challenge.

Jockeys Lisa O'Neill, six time ladies champion title holder Liz Lalor, and most successful point-to-point rider of all time Derek O'Connor will be joined by riders Maxine O'Sullivan, Shauna Larkin Barry O'Neill and Rob James for Team Ireland.

Team Great Britain includes Will Biddick, Gina Andrews, Alex Edward, Claire Hardwick and more, making for a thrilling contest in the two challenge races.

There will be four other races and two pony club races in the action packed day.

The Country Fair element ensures that there is plenty to enterTain non-racing fans too. Expect to see the Maperath Mobile Farm, Newgrange Falconry,The Royal Meath Bee Keepers, The Deer Society, Fly-Tiers as well as gun dog, shooting and archery demos. A new addition for this year is The Equipet Dog Show. Popular categories will include classes for Best Family Pet, Best Toy Dog, Dog most like its Owner, Best Dressed Dog, Best Junior Handler, Waggiest Tail and the overall prize for Best in Show.

The shopping village will have brands such as Dubarry, Carol Sheridan Interiors and much more, including a range of craft exhibitors. A highlight is the wide range of free kids activities, including puppet shows, bouncy castles, face-painting, pumpkin carving and pony rides.

Dowth Point-to-Point and Country Fair is running this week, on Sunday 29 October, and tickets cost €10 with kids under 12 going free.
