While it’s always nice to be by the seaside, a lakeside getaway can be just as scenic and beautiful. Here are some of our favourite around the country for an autumnal break.
The Lake Hotel Killarney
This family owned hotel is on the lake shore of Killarney’s lower lake Lough Lein, nestled between mountains and woodlands. The outdoor hot tub faces the lake and views of the 12 century castle ruins on the grounds.
Located in the unspoilt beauty of Connemara, Delphi Lodge is a Georgian country house on a 100 acre estate overlooking the lakes and rivers of the Delphi valley. An excellent spot for salmon and seatrout fishing in the Delphi system of Doolough, Finlough, Bundorragha River and Glencullen.
Killyhevlin Lakeside Hotel and Lodges
With beautiful views of Lough Erne, this four star retreat in Fermanagh is stunning. Take a guided boat tour of the Fermanagh Lakelands on a waterbus from the town, try angling on Lough Erne or Lough Melvin or bring the family or pals to try the adventure park at the nearby Corralea Activity Centre on Lough Macnean.
Pops Dream Lough Derg
This little cabin for two on the banks of Lough Derg is a renovated boathouse, now fully furbished with a kitchen, bathroom and cosy living room. There’s a woodburning stove to keep the place warm and if the sun shines you can fire up the BBQ in the garden.
Ard Na Sidhe
Ard na Sidhe Country House Hotel was built by Lady Gordon in 1913.With just 18 bedrooms, this is a hidden gem situated on the shores of Caragh Lake, Killorglin on the scenic Ring of Kerry
The Lough Allen
This lovely hotel is located on 350 hectares of woodland surrounding Lough Allen in Leitrim. This is a great place to bring the family, with Lough Allen Adventure offering kayaking, open boating, and windsurfing and the nearby Lough Key Forest Park’s unique tree canopy trail and play kingdom.
