While we all know and love the rainbow Pride flag, some occasions call for something a bit more understated, or perhaps multi colours are not your thing. That is why TV producer Shauna Keogh created her clothing line with a difference for Pride 2018. Each T-shirt and hoodie is coded with 5428, the numerics for LGBT. “It’s a subtle, discrete line of the usual V-neck T-shirts and hoodies gay women are usually drawn to. There are no unicorns or glitter in sight, as symbolic and powerful as the Pride flag is, the multicolours were not something that helped normalise gay to me,” Shauna says. “Many of my gay friends feel the same, especially those living in rural areas and working in conservative professions such as teaching.” Shauna left Ireland at 20 and has worked all over the world for Discovery, National Geographic and the BBC. “It took me until I was almost 33, to return home and tell my parents I was gay. That was three years ago and it wasn't coming out that was the hardest part but getting used to living life as a gay woman after years of my own internalised homophobia. I started seeing a counsellor to deal with it and haven't looked back.” The line is available to purchase exclusively at Street 66 on Parliament St in Dublin, or online at www.5428apparel.com/.
