The Old Mill Stores was the Irish Times Best Craft and Gift Shop in 2016 and it is easy to see why once you step foot inside the door.

Set over three rooms, each contains a well curated selection of odds and ends for your home, beautiful prints, contemporary lighting, and their speciality, antique stoves. They even supplied stoves for the final two Harry Potter movies!

Be warned, it’s impossible to resist going on a serious spree, from the gorgeous mirrors, artisanal soaps and the trendy pieces like cactus storage jars and tropical print cushions.

Even the utility pieces are beautifully made, from pretty oilcloths, ostrich feather dusters and metal dustpans, making cleaning up feel less like a chore.

The shop is run by Claire Graham and Tom Keane, and they’ve worked hard to ensure that you won’t find their products in other shops nearby.

““We like to ensure that people are getting something quite unique and they won’t find anywhere else. We try to have exclusivity on what we sell and check what is being sold locally,” Claire says. “We go to shows two or three times a year and also spend hours trawling the internet.”

Their bestselling products are varied. “We have a Danish lighting company called Vita and their feather lampshades are particularly popular. We sell a lot of utilitarian things as well as candles and Irish-made things. We sell Bare Essentials soaps that are just beautiful. We also sell a lot of Tinakealy leather.”

In the June issue of Irish Country Magazine, we took a peek behind the scenes of the shop and Claire and Tom’s home for our interiors shoot. It's just as stylish and fun as you'd expect from the owners of such a cool shop. The June issue of Irish Country Magazine is out now.

Where to find it: In Connonagh Village, on the N71 between Skibbereen and Clonakilty.
